Probuphine is not approved to treat opioid dependence in people who have not received buprenorphine treatment in the past, or who have not achieved prolonged stability on buprenorphine treatment, at a dosage of 8 mg or less of buprenorphine per day.

Is Probuphine a controlled substance?

PROBUPHINE is a controlled substance (CIII) because it contains buprenorphine that can be a target for people who abuse prescription medicines or street drugs. If it comes out of your arm, keep the implant in a safe and secure place away from others, especially children.

Is Probuphine an agonist or antagonist?

Buprenorphine is a partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor and an antagonist at the kappa-opioid receptor. Four PROBUPHINE implants deliver circulating drug blood levels comparable to the average plasma concentrations observed following daily doses of: 8 mg Subutex or Suboxone tablet equivalent.
